GOP congressional leaders seemed optimistic that they could avoid a partial government shutdown before Friday’s funding deadline after meeting with President Biden yesterday.

A refresher: Some federal departments will close Friday night if Congress doesn’t act. More government services would shutter the following Friday if the gridlock continues. [Yahoo Finance]

House trouble: Speaker Mike Johnson faces pressure to agree to a deal despite objections from hard-right Republicans, who want to include various partisan policy mandates in the legislation. [New York Times]
