From Our Business Partners

Dear Readers,

Below are interesting developments and announcements from our business partners in the past week.
Aviation
Amidst the debate about a new national carrier for Nigeria's aviation industry, a new entrant has emerged in the industry. With a commitment to ensure customer satisfaction, the new airline has commenced recruitment and indicated its planes will fly to many airports in the country, including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Yola and Maiduguri. Some of the positions it is recruiting for are station managers, baggage handlers and boarding officers.
Fintech
In the Fintech space, Unified Payment Services Limited, Nigeria's premier financial technology service provider, kicked off celebrations to mark its 26th anniversary with a promise to continue to provide seamless payment solutions to its numerous customers.

Established in 1997, Unified Payments has consistently demonstrated a commitment to innovation, excellence, growth, and customer satisfaction throughout its remarkable journey.

While United celebrates its 26th anniversary, another Fintech giant, Flutterwave, achieved a significant milestone needed to obtain its operational license in Kenya by getting a first name approval.

During an interview with Bloomberg, Olugbenga Agboola, the visionary founder behind Flutterwave, proudly shared this achievement. He underscored the strategic importance of gaining approval for operations in Kenya, a pivotal hub within the African landscape.

Another Fintech giant, LemFi, a leading fintech company specialising in international payments for everyone, announced its official launch in the United States.

Building on its recent success as a licensed International Money Transfer Operator through its subsidiary RightCard Payments Limited by the Central Bank of Nigeria, LemFi has taken its innovative digital money transfer services to customers in the American market.

Power

While Nigeria's Fintech companies continue to grow and expand their operations beyond the country, millions of Nigerians still do not have access to constant electricity. One company, BLUETTI, is determined to assist Nigerians facing the electricity problem. BLUETT

BLUETTI, a leading clean energy storage company, offers effective solutions to help address Nigeria's power deficit. With BLUETTI's solar power stations, Nigerians can harness free solar energy and have reliable backups during power outages.

Regulators

With the continuous growth of private companies like Flutterwave, United Payment and BLUETTI, government regulators need to up their game and ensure they have the right personnel.  One such regulator is the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), which held a kick-off ceremony marking the commencement of the Cadets Training Programme organized with Stoilic Shipping Ltd, a renowned maritime training school.

The Cadet Sea Time training programme offers 10 Nigerian cadets real-world experience and hands-on instruction aboard international vessels, giving them the practical skills and information required for a successful career in the maritime sector.

Also, in a deliberate effort to deepen Internet penetration and digital education in the country, the NCDMB on Tuesday commissioned three state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centres with dedicated broadband Internet in three rural secondary schools in Akwa Ibom State.

Global

Just as Nigerian companies are expanding their operations abroad, Nigerian individuals continue to occupy top positions in major global institutions, thus making the country proud. One such person is John Olajide, who was announced by the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) as the new Chairman of its Board, effective 1 January 2024. He will succeed Jeffrey Sturchio, who has served as CCA Chairman since April 2016 and will continue as a CCA Board member.

The CCA is the leading U.S. business association focused solely on connecting business interests in Africa.
