The Federal Government has unveiled a major initiative to empower over 150 million Nigerians impacted by insecurity, with a focus on agricultural development.
The National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, announced the project during the signing of an MoU between the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA).
Ribadu said insecurity has devastated livelihoods especially in agriculture, Nigeria's largest employer.
The new Agribusiness and Livelihood Empowerment Project targets ex-combatants, conflict-affected communities, and widows of fallen soldiers.

It is part of the DDRR (Disarmament, Demobilisation, Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration) effort to support peacebuilding.
The NCTC's Maj.-Gen. Adamu Laka noted the project builds on the success of Operation SAFE CORRIDOR in Gombe and will offer land, training, inputs, and market access. IITA's Dr. Denshell Kenton pledged long-term support to drive food security and economic stability.
This shift from military responses to non-kinetic, community-based solutions signals a new direction in Nigeria's fight against insecurity.
