Community-based organisations and cooperatives across Timor-Leste now have an opportunity to access fresh funding through the UNDP's small grants initiative targeting disaster resilience and inclusive development.
According to UNDP, projects can be implemented in vulnerable sukus and aldeias across Aileu, Atauro, Baucau, Viqueque, Oecusse, and Dili. Eligible proposals must align with key thematic areas such as resilient livelihoods, community infrastructure, ecosystem management, early-warning systems, gender equality, and strengthened local leadership.
At least 80% of approved funds must go directly into project activities, with in-kind community contributions strongly encouraged. UNDP also emphasises sustainability, noting that each project should demonstrate long-term viability and the potential for replication in other communities.
Applicants are allowed to design multi-thematic projects, enabling organisations to address interconnected challenges such as climate risks, income generation, and women's economic empowerment.
This initiative is part of UNDP's broader support for grassroots institutions, ensuring that women, youth, and marginalized groups have the tools to build safer, stronger, and more inclusive communities.
