MultiChoice Nigeria, the parent company of DStv and GOtv, has announced an upward review of its subscription prices, set to take effect from March 1, 2025.
In a statement issued to customers on Monday, the company attributed the price hike to the rising cost of operations in Nigeria, citing factors such as currency depreciation and high inflation.
The statement, titled "Price Adjustments for DStv and GOtv Packages," reads:
"Dear Customer, please note that effective 1 March 2025, there will be a price adjustment on all DStv packages. This is to enable us to continue to offer our customers world-class homegrown and international content, delivered through the best technology."

Why the Price Increase?
MultiChoice stated that the decision was driven by the economic challenges affecting business operations in Nigeria, including:
- Exchange rate volatility – The sharp decline in the value of the naira has increased operational costs.
- Inflationary pressure – Rising prices of goods and services have significantly impacted business expenses.
- Cost of content acquisition – Maintaining premium local and international programming requires increased financial investment.
Customer Reactions & Industry Implications
This marks MultiChoice's second price increase in less than a year, raising concerns among subscribers who are already struggling with the high cost of living. Many customers have expressed frustration over the frequent adjustments, urging the company to explore alternative solutions instead of shifting the burden onto consumers.
With streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Showmax offering competitive alternatives, industry analysts suggest that DStv and GOtv may face increased subscriber migration to digital streaming platforms, especially among younger audiences.
Despite the price hike, MultiChoice has assured customers of its commitment to delivering high-quality entertainment and innovative technology, emphasizing that the adjustments are necessary to sustain its service offerings in Nigeria.
