As part of its drive to meet the 2025 IGR target of N120 billion, the Abia State Government has begun a comprehensive state-wide enumeration and automation exercise.
The initiative, currently focused on urban centres, aims to capture detailed data on buildings, businesses, residents, and commercial activities for better tax administration.
Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, said the exercise would create a central Revenue Data Bank, ensure fair taxation, and expand access to public services. "We're unlocking every viable revenue source to meet the growing needs of Ndi Abia," he said.

In partnership with Access Bank, the project will integrate with the Abia State Social Identification Number (ABSSIN) to build a robust database that supports revenue forecasting and equitable taxation.
Finance Commissioner, Mr. Uwaoma Ukandu, and ABIRS Chairman, Prof. Udochukwu Ogbonna, also stressed the importance of the exercise, noting its relevance to security, planning, and sustainable development.
The initiative forms part of Governor Alex Otti's broader economic reforms, which focus on transparency, inclusive growth, and data-driven governance.
