The Ogun State Government has sealed Quantum Steel Industry and Xinfeng Plastics Limited following fatal industrial accidents at their facilities.
The Chairman of the State Task Force on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, Farook Akintunde, announced the closures in a statement on Thursday in Abeokuta, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Industrial Accidents Lead to Closure
Quantum Steel, located in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area, was shut down after an industrial explosion that resulted in multiple fatalities, with several victims still receiving medical treatment.
Similarly, Xinfeng Plastics, situated along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, was sealed after a machine operator was electrocuted while on duty.
Akintunde explained that the state government took the decision to investigate the immediate and underlying causes of these incidents and implement preventive measures to avert future occurrences.
He emphasized the government's determination to conduct credible investigations, including bringing in external safety experts to identify the root cause of the accidents.

The chairman expressed concern that despite regular safety awareness campaigns, fatal accidents continue to occur within some companies in the state.
He stated that the affected firms would remain closed until investigations are concluded and new safety protocols are put in place.
Akintunde also warned other firms to prioritize the safety of their workers, particularly those in production units, to prevent further tragedies.
The Ogun State Government reiterated its commitment to ensuring workplace safety and urged companies to comply with industrial safety regulations to protect workers and maintain a safe working environment.
