In a decisive step toward gender-inclusive development, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has launched the Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy Roadmap, a strategic initiative aimed at expanding economic opportunities for women and supporting female-led small businesses across the state.
Announced during an official unveiling in Lagos, the policy roadmap reflects months of collaborative engagement with stakeholders across public and private sectors, civil society, women's groups, and communities. It addresses key barriers limiting women's participation in the economy and offers concrete plans to close gender gaps in entrepreneurship, education, agriculture, and employment.
"This roadmap is not just a policy document—it is a practical tool grounded in the realities of women across Lagos," Governor Sanwo-Olu said. "From market women to tech innovators, it outlines how we will equip women with the tools, finance, training, and opportunities they need to thrive."

With a focus on sectors such as agribusiness, STEM, education, and entrepreneurship, the plan outlines interventions including access to credit, business training, inclusive labour practices, and support for women-owned enterprises. Special consideration is also given to women with disabilities and those in underserved communities.
For Lagos' growing population of female entrepreneurs and small business owners, the roadmap promises direct support aimed at helping women scale sustainable businesses, access new markets, and contribute more meaningfully to the state's economy.
"When women thrive, Lagos thrives," Sanwo-Olu added, emphasizing the government's long-term commitment to inclusive growth and equal opportunity.
