Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has empowered 1,000 residents with ₦460 million under the Eko Cares Financial Assistance Programme, aimed at alleviating hardship and promoting self-reliance among vulnerable citizens.
The cheques were presented to beneficiaries during an event organised by the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement at Agidingbi, Lagos. Beneficiaries received between ₦300,000 and ₦1.5 million each to support businesses, healthcare, education, rent, and people with disabilities.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu—represented by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat—urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds to improve their livelihoods. He said the initiative reflects the true essence of governance, which is to provide comfort, hope, and opportunities for those most in need.
The Governor commended President Bola Tinubu's ongoing reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that collective support is needed to build a stronger, more inclusive Nigeria. He described Eko Cares as a lifeline initiative designed to help Lagosians overcome economic challenges, foster stability, and restore dignity.
"This programme is not just financial aid—it is a seed of hope," Sanwo-Olu said. "Let it ignite your next breakthrough, bolster your business, or bring peace to your home. The government can open doors, but it is your determination that keeps them open."

In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr. Afolabi Tajudeen, said the initiative embodies the Lagos State Government's commitment to compassion, equity, and empowerment. He noted that since its inception in 2020, Eko Cares has been a beacon of hope for thousands of vulnerable residents, reinforcing the government's pledge that no Lagosian will be left behind.
Tajudeen also highlighted other citizen-focused initiatives, including the Civic Education and Sensitisation Programme in schools and the Citizens Gate Mobile App, which promote engagement, accountability, and inclusive governance.
Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the state government for its support, pledging to use the funds responsibly.
Launched in 2020, the Eko Cares Financial Aid Programme provides assistance for healthcare, small businesses, school fees, and housing, as part of the state's broader effort to reduce poverty and promote inclusive growth.
