Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, has been honored with The Sun Newspaper's Governor of the Year in Agriculture Award for his administration's strides in revitalizing agriculture as a key pillar of economic growth and food security.
Dedicating the award to Nigerian farmers, Governor Bago reaffirmed his commitment to making Niger State the nation's food basket.

He urged citizens to embrace agriculture, emphasizing that farming remains the most sustainable path to food sufficiency, job creation, and economic prosperity.
"You don't need vast farmlands to contribute. A simple vegetable garden or crops in sacks can make a difference," he said, encouraging Nigerians to utilize every available space for farming.
Governor Bago reiterated that agriculture is the new crude oil, stressing the need for large-scale food production, agro-processing, and export to drive economic transformation.
He called for the right policies and investments to position Nigeria as a global agricultural powerhouse.
