Sponsored by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, the amendment bill proposes the creation of specialised colleges across Nigeria to deepen agricultural innovation, especially in underserved urban and rural areas. The proposed institutions include veterinary, fisheries, animal health, and land resources colleges spread across Abia, Adamawa, Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Sokoto, and Kogi States. Kalu emphasized that agriculture remains a key pillar of the economy, supporting jobs, food security, and rural development. The initiative, flagged off in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, is designed to equip farmers with climate-resilient practices, organic fertiliser use, and post-harvest loss prevention. Managing Director Emmanuella Arukwe said the training aligns with the Federal Government's agricultural transformation agenda. The move, championed by the Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNGI), is designed to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal and promote clean energy adoption among transport operators. Over half of the park's taxis now run on CNG, reducing fuel costs and allowing drivers to offer cheaper rates. PCNGI CEO Michael Oluwagbemi, represented by Regional Coordinator David Idako, confirmed this during a press briefing in Abuja.
