Understanding climate change – a water perspective
As we celebrate Earth Day – with climate change front of mind – it is critical to appreciate that water is at the centre of how the planet is being impacted, and how we need to respond.
Water and climate change are inextricably linked, according to Fiona Sutton, a principal consultant at SRK Consulting South Africa (SA).
"Climate change is often described as a water story because many of its impacts are directly related to water," said Sutton. "From unpredictable rainfall patterns to shrinking ice sheets, rising sea levels, floods and droughts – most impacts of climate change relate to water."
