The World Bank has committed $60 million to train 75,000 Nigerian youths under the Nigerian Youth Employment Through Skills Acquisition Fund (NYESAF).
The initiative, part of the Innovation, Development, and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) project by the Federal Ministry of Education, aims to strengthen Nigeria's skills development system.
Speaking at the Contract/MoU Signing and Implementation Workshop in Abuja, World Bank Education Specialist Mistura Rufai disclosed that the IDEAS project has a total budget of $130 million, with $60 million dedicated to NYESAF.
The programme will provide short-term skills training using result-based contracting in both formal and informal sectors.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, represented by IDEAS Project National Coordinator Mrs. Blessing Ogwu, described the initiative as a transformative step towards youth employment and economic growth.
The training, based on National Occupational Standards, will be certified under the National Skills Qualification framework.
Dr. Abdul Ahmed of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gombe, confirmed that his institution will focus on automotive mechanics, ensuring hands-on training.
Project contractor Ndem Ndiyo added that the curriculum aligns with global competency levels, preparing trainees for employment locally and internationally.
The initiative is expected to boost youth employment, enhance workforce skills, and contribute to Nigeria's industrial and economic growth.
