3 Questions... | about “forever chemicals” | Yahoo Life Writer Kaitlin Reilly discusses her reporting on PFAs, also known as “forever chemicals,” and the FDA’s announcement that food packaging would no longer contain them. |
| | What are “forever chemicals,” and what do they do to the body? |
| They’re compounds that have long been used to make food packaging water- and grease-resistant. They’ve been linked to a number of adverse health effects. |
| |
| | What did the FDA announce, and what does it mean for me? |
| It announced that manufacturers would no longer sell food packaging that contains certain forever chemicals, which should make packaging safer. “Welcome news,” one expert told me. |
| |
| | Will it make a difference when it comes to my exposure? |
| Probably only a small difference. PFAs are everywhere. That expert previously told me we should be “worried, but not panicked” by them. There’s only so much we can do to reduce exposure. |
