The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is strengthening its role in Nigeria's battle against antimicrobial resistance (AMR), collaborating with the Federal Ministries of Health, Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS), and Environment.
This initiative aims to curb the growing threat of AMR through a coordinated, multisectoral approach that addresses human, animal, and environmental health.
As a key regulatory body, NAFDAC is committed to ensuring the responsible use of antimicrobials, monitoring drug quality, and preventing the overuse and misuse of antibiotics in healthcare and livestock production.
The agency is also intensifying public awareness campaigns to educate Nigerians on the dangers of self-medication and the improper use of antibiotics.

The initiative aligns with Nigeria's FFCG Phase 2 Country Investment Strategy (CIS), focusing on four priority areas: generating high-quality AMR data, conducting effective data analysis, sharing findings with policymakers, and promoting sustainable investments to combat resistance.
By reinforcing strict regulations on antimicrobial distribution and collaborating with stakeholders to implement best practices, NAFDAC plays a critical role in Nigeria's efforts to mitigate AMR and protect public health.
