The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has awarded Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certificates to 31 local businesses in Kaduna, marking a major step toward improving product quality and industrial competitiveness in the state.
The certification, presented during a ceremony held on Thursday, signifies that the recipients have met Nigerian Industrial Standards for safety, performance, and reliability. The Director-General of SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Okeke—represented by North-West Regional Director Isaac Omebije—commended the companies for their commitment to quality.
"MANCAP certification is not handed out lightly. These companies have undergone extensive testing and scrutiny. Their success proves that local products can meet world-class standards," said Omebije.
SON's Kaduna State Coordinator, Mamza Irmiya, urged the newly certified businesses to maintain quality benchmarks or risk certificate revocation. He emphasized that adherence to standards reduces costs, boosts efficiency, and opens new market opportunities.

Among the certified firms are Global Care Industry Ltd., Simalox Paint and Decoration Services, Matrix Fertilizer Ltd., Euro Form, and Al-Babello Trading Company Ltd.
Tak Agro and Chemicals Ltd. CEO Peter Kuku shared that the certification process was rigorous but worthwhile. "It has helped us improve our operations and given our customers greater confidence in our products," he said.
To support more small enterprises, SON has introduced the Products Identification Scheme (PIS), a more accessible certification option for emerging brands. It aims to help micro and small businesses standardize their products even if they are not yet covered under existing industrial standards.
MANCAP remains SON's flagship certification for ensuring locally made products meet regulatory expectations, positioning Nigerian manufacturers for competitiveness in both local and international markets.
