The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) is currently training 305 young Nigerians in critical oil and gas skills at the Rivers State University's Centre for Marine and Offshore Technology Development (CMOTD). This initiative is part of the Board's Human Capacity Development programme aimed at closing the technical skills gap in the industry and boosting local participation.
The four-month training—fully funded by NCDMB—covers high-demand disciplines such as automation, instrumentation, piping and mechanical system design, electrical transformer maintenance, welding and fabrication, and big data analytics. Trainees were carefully selected through the NOGICJQS, Nigeria's central oil and gas qualification platform.
During a site inspection, NCDMB Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Ogbe, encouraged trainees to take full advantage of the programme, emphasizing that the acquired skills are crucial for employment and entrepreneurship in Nigeria's evolving energy sector. He reaffirmed the Board's mission to boost local content, drive job creation, and align with President Tinubu's economic transformation goals.

Ogbe also toured the newly built Advanced Marine and Offshore Engineering Centre at RSU and pledged to complete its setup for optimal use. Additionally, he addressed delays in staff housing projects and assured continued support for the university's engineering programs.
With over 70% of instructors sourced from the oil and gas industry, CMOTD is recognized by COREN as a Centre of Excellence in Marine Engineering, offering practical, industry-aligned training that benefits the broader Nigerian economy—especially SMEs aiming to enter or scale within the oil and gas space.
