Nigeria Distilleries Limited (NDL) is taking decisive action to protect its products and brand against the rise of counterfeit alcohol. Wale Majolagbe, Executive Director of Operations and Finance, announced the introduction of new anti-counterfeit measures during the company's recent Distributor Conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
He shared that guala caps and updated packaging designs have been introduced to combat the growing issue of fake spirits, which pose serious health risks and threaten the company's long-standing reputation for quality.
Majolagbe highlighted the severity of the situation, stating, "Fake drinks are more common than fake drugs in Nigeria," and explained how counterfeiters exploit NDL's brand equity. He emphasized that these measures were a necessary step to protect consumers and ensure the integrity of NDL's products.
Despite a challenging 2024, marked by a tough business environment, NDL remains optimistic about 2025. The Distributor Conference, themed "Stronger Together, Thriving in 2025", focused on fostering stronger ties with distributors nationwide, an essential step in navigating the evolving market dynamics.
