Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to modernising markets across the state to ensure traders operate in safe, secure, and well-organised environments.
Represented by Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, Makinde made this known on Monday at the commissioning of the Omituntun Ultramodern Market in Omi Adio, Ibadan.
The new facility, built on 9,000sqm, features 406 lock-up shops, 56 open stalls, an administrative block, security post, walkways, toilets, water supply, waste systems, and fire safety installations.

It is the fourth modern market completed under Makinde's administration, following similar projects in Oyo, Ibadan, and Ogbomoso.
Makinde said the state plans to replicate such markets across Oyo to discourage roadside trading and promote orderly business operations.
He assured traders that allocations would be strictly "one-man, one-shop," with displaced traders given priority.
Community leaders, including the Asiwaju of Ido Local Government, Niyi Akintola, praised Makinde for transformative projects in the area, while Chairman of Ido Local Government, Sheriff Adeojo, described the market as the fulfilment of the governor's campaign promise to deliver safe marketplaces for SMEs.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Demola Ojo, added that the project demonstrates the state's commitment to enabling business growth and improving market infrastructure for small enterprises.
