The Federal Government has unveiled the National Artisan Skills Acquisition Programme (NASAP) to train and certify 10,000 artisans annually, targeting the growing demand in Nigeria's housing sector.
Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, presented the initiative at the 6th National Council on Skills, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima in Abuja.
Dangiwa described NASAP as a "digital craft-hub" – an Uber for artisans – that will connect certified construction workers to developers and homeowners. The programme will offer 6-month intensive training in 10 high-demand trades, including bricklaying, plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, welding, POP, and more.

Trainees will be digitally profiled and added to a national database with their location, trade, ratings, and work history, boosting visibility and job access.
NASAP will roll out in three phases: pilot (2025), national expansion (2026), and regional Centres of Excellence (2027). It will operate under a PPP model, with support from development partners like the World Bank, UNDP, and GIZ.
The Council urged the Ministry to align NASAP with NBTE standards to ensure national certification and lasting impact on job creation, housing quality, and skills development.
