The Federal Government has called on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to play a greater role in advancing inclusive education for girls, particularly those with hearing challenges, as part of efforts to build a more equitable and productive workforce.
Speaking during the International Day of the Girl Child celebration themed "Learn Sign Language Today," the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (CON), highlighted that inclusive education is not only a social goal but also an economic strategy that strengthens human capital for future entrepreneurship and innovation.
He said initiatives such as AGILE and LUMINAH 2030 are creating opportunities for young girls to remain in school, develop relevant skills, and participate meaningfully in the economy.

Industry experts and education partners at the event urged SMEs to integrate social inclusion into their corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies by supporting girl-child education, promoting workplace diversity, and offering internship opportunities to students with disabilities.
They noted that investing in inclusive education and gender equity contributes to a more skilled labour force, which in turn strengthens Nigeria's SME ecosystem and drives sustainable national growth.
