Need to know GOP congressional leaders seemed optimistic that they could avoid a partial government shutdown before Friday’s funding deadline after meeting with President Biden yesterday. A refresher: Some federal departments will close Friday night if Congress doesn’t act. More government services would shutter the following Friday if the gridlock continues. [Yahoo Finance] House trouble: Speaker Mike Johnson faces pressure to agree to a deal despite objections from hard-right Republicans, who want to include various partisan policy mandates in the legislation. [New York Times] Poor ratings: New data released this week shows that just 12% of Americans approve of how Congress is “handling its job,” its lowest approval rating since 2015. [The Hill]

In case you missed it ⚾ Ohtani’s spring debut Shohei Ohtani hit his first home run for the Dodgers during his inaugural game with the team in spring training. “We’re trending in the right direction,” he said after the Dodgers’ 9-6 victory over the White Sox. [Yahoo Sports] 🗳️ Michigan primary Donald Trump and President Biden easily won the Michigan primaries. Early figures showed roughly 15% of Democrats voted “uncommitted” in protest of Biden’s support of Israel. [Yahoo News] 🔥 Texas wildfires A series of wildfires in the Texas panhandle has caused power outages and prompted evacuations and a major nuclear weapons facility to temporarily shut down. They were still burning this morning. [AP] 🚀 Moon mission cut short Intuitive Machines, which built the Odysseus lunar lander, said its mission is ending early after the spacecraft tipped over during touchdown and its solar panels were no longer exposed to the sun. [USA Today] 💰 Netflix subscriber update Netflix has dropped billing through Apple’s App Store. Those who subscribe through it will have to change their payment information before their monthly renewal date to continue watching. [CNN]
