Kamoa Copper offers staff explosives training course to improve safety in all mining operations
 
 

Kamoa Copper S.A. which operators the Kamoa Copper Mining Complex has announced the completion of explosives training course for its employees to further improve safety in all mining operations.The two-week certification training was delivered by the Congolese government agency AFRIDEX, Africaine d'Explosifs, responsible for the regulation, production and distribution of explosives in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Metso secures major contract for key process equipment at Barrick's Lumwana copper project in Zambia
Barrick Gold Corporation has awarded Metso a major order for the supply of copper concentrator plant equipment to their Lumwana expansion project in North-Western Province in Zambia. Metso's scope of delivery includes key equipment for grinding, flotation, thickening, feeding and filtration. The value of the order is approximately EUR 70 million, and it is booked in the Minerals segment's 2024 third-quarter order intake.

In a bid to position itself as the biggest single source of copper in the world, China's Zijin Mining Group Co. wants to expand its jointly-owned copper mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to one million tonnes a year from the current target of 600,000 tonnes.

Wärtsilä strengthens commitment to Zambia with O&M agreement renewal for Ndola power plant
Technology group Wärtsilä has signed a renewal of its Operations & Maintenance (O&M) agreement covering the 105 MW power plant owned by Independent Power Producer Ndola Energy Company Ltd (NECL) in Zambia. The previous agreement had been in force since 2013. By ensuring the reliability and availability of the plant, NECL can meet its Power Purchase Agreement obligations with Zambia's utility, ZESCO. The order was booked by Wärtsilä in Q2, 2024.
