Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has launched a ₦30 billion economic empowerment programme targeting over 60,000 small business owners across the state's 30 Assembly constituencies.
Speaking at the launch event in Miga town, Governor Namadi explained that each of the 30 Assembly members would receive funds to distribute to more than 2,000 constituents, aiming to boost local businesses.

The initiative, championed by Speaker of the State Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, will be replicated across all constituencies. Under the scheme, beneficiaries received varying amounts: ₦100,000 for 1,000 people, ₦50,000 for 150 people, ₦30,000 for 150 people, ₦20,000 for 250 people, and ₦10,000 for 1,368 people.
Governor Namadi described the initiative as a demonstration of lawmakers' close engagement with their constituents and reaffirmed the state government's commitment to supporting such programmes.
He noted that the effort aligns with the administration's goal of alleviating economic hardship, particularly at the grassroots level.
"This initiative is proof that the legislature understands the needs of the people and is committed to finding solutions," he stated. "Its timing is significant, especially with the upcoming Holy Month of Ramadan, and I urge beneficiaries to make good use of the support."
Speaker Dangyatin emphasized that small-scale businesses are the backbone of rural economies, making this initiative particularly impactful. He highlighted that while lawmakers have executed various constituency projects, this initiative stands out for its direct impact on daily livelihoods.
He also expressed appreciation to the governor for approving the programme, stating, "We requested this opportunity to empower our people, and because of the mutual respect and cooperation between the executive and legislative arms, it became a reality. We remain committed to working together to advance our state."
