Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has approved N1 billion in grants for 9,403 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Biu and Hawul Local Government Areas as part of his administration's economic empowerment initiatives.
Boosting Local Businesses and Employment
The initiative aims to support small businesses, reduce poverty, and create jobs in the state. Speaking at the inauguration of the disbursement exercise on Tuesday in Biu, Governor Zulum reaffirmed his commitment to empowering entrepreneurs and youth to drive economic growth.
The fund distribution is as follows:
- ₦3 million for 5,603 entrepreneurs in Biu
- ₦7 million for 2,000 businesses in Hawul
- 1,800 youth and vulnerable families to benefit
Governor Zulum urged beneficiaries to invest wisely, ensuring maximum economic impact. He also directed the Borno State Social Investment Management Programme (BOSIMP) to identify an additional 2,000 vulnerable youths for the next phase of the empowerment initiative.

Infrastructure Development: 600 Housing Units for Teachers & Health Workers
In addition to economic empowerment, Governor Zulum launched the construction of 600 housing units across five locations to accommodate teachers and healthcare workers.
The housing project breakdown:
- 100 units each in Biu, Magumeri, Hawul, and Gubio for teachers
- 200 units at Borno State University Teaching Hospital for healthcare workers
Each housing estate will include clinics, roads, drainage systems, sports centers, and other essential amenities to improve living conditions for beneficiaries.

Governor Zulum reiterated his administration's dedication to improving civil servants' welfare, particularly teachers and healthcare workers. He emphasized that quality housing and economic empowerment are critical to Borno State's long-term development and economic recovery.
This initiative marks a significant step towards rebuilding communities, fostering self-reliance, and strengthening the local economy in Borno State.
