Small businesses across Lagos Island faced a challenging day on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, as the closure of the Independence Bridge (Marina-bound) for repairs led to an unprecedented traffic gridlock.
The congestion, which started as early as 7 a.m., affected key commercial areas, slowing down deliveries and reducing customer foot traffic.
The situation was worsened by heavy rainfall in parts of Victoria Island, causing further delays along Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Lekki-Epe Expressway, and Admiralty Way. Some commuters reported being stuck for over 12 hours, with a few arriving home as late as 7 a.m. the next day.
