The National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) has called on Nigerian innovators and creatives to protect their intellectual property by securing patents for their work—a move the agency says is critical to unlocking local and global business opportunities.
Speaking at a workshop held in Abuja and organized in collaboration with Dismas Integrated Services Limited, NOTAP Director General Dr Oby Amadiobi emphasized the agency's commitment to promoting indigenous technology and innovation.
"Our role is to safeguard and promote Nigerian innovations," Dr Amadiobi stated. "Patent protection is essential—not only for ownership but also to commercialize and attract investment locally and internationally."
She urged innovators to move away from outdated approaches and embrace modern systems that value intellectual property, stressing the importance of enforcing local content policies across all industries.

Dr Amadiobi also highlighted NOTAP's achievements in helping inventors patent their work, encouraging more Nigerians to take advantage of the agency's services.
Echoing her call, the Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Inventors (ANI), Professor Sadiq Muhammad, noted that the country is rich in innovation talent but needs stronger government support to maximize its potential.
Similarly, Ishola Ogunwode, President of the Association of Research and Engineers Network, called for collaborative efforts in safeguarding intellectual property, describing it as a critical driver of sustainable economic growth.
The event brought together key stakeholders working to promote grassroots innovation and strengthen Nigeria's innovation ecosystem.
