President Bola Tinubu is set to perform the groundbreaking ceremony for what is expected to become the world's largest cotton and polyester processing factory, located in Ogun State's Special Agro Processing Zone at the Gateway International Airport, Iperu/Ilisan.
Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed the plans while receiving former Accountant-General of the Federation, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein, and members of the Iperu Development Association in Abeokuta.
The factory, which falls under the Renewed Hope Cotton Resurgent Initiative, will occupy 400 hectares and is projected to provide direct employment for up to 250,000 people.
According to Abiodun, the location was strategically chosen due to its proximity to the airport, strong infrastructure, and access to raw materials. "The economic impact on Iperu, Remoland, Ijebu axis, and the wider Ogun State will be transformative," he said.

Site clearing is already underway, and the president is expected to lead the groundbreaking in the next 30 to 45 days.
In addition to the factory, the Nigerian Air Force has indicated plans to establish a base in Iperu to enhance security in and around the area, including the airport.
Governor Abiodun highlighted ongoing projects in the region, including road reconstruction, housing developments, and health and education infrastructure, describing Iperu as a new growth hub for the state.
Mrs. Madein commended the governor's leadership for attracting investment and pledged continued support for initiatives that drive development. She also shared updates from her national service and her contributions to local projects.
The chairman of the Iperu Development Association, Otunba Taiwo Oyebanjo, and traditional ruler Oba Lukman Salami both praised the administration's efforts in transforming the town and improving quality of life.
