The Lagos State government has revealed that its housing development initiatives created 5,287 direct and indirect jobs in 2024, significantly empowering local SMEs and artisans.
Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, made this known during a ministerial press briefing marking Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's second term in office.Over the past six years, housing projects have generated employment for nearly 13,749 citizens across various skill levels.
The state also impacted 28,507 households through its housing estates as of December 2024, reinforcing its commitment to addressing shelter needs and economic empowerment.To improve the quality of construction delivery, the ministry prioritised artisan training through its Master Craftsman Programme.

More than 500 artisans in plumbing, masonry, carpentry, and electrical work were retrained and equipped with certificates, tools, and work gear. These craftsmen are expected to be continuously engaged by contractors on state projects.
In terms of regulatory impact, the ministry recovered over N295 million and 20 properties through mediation involving real estate disputes. It has also resolved 1,243 out of 1,899 cases received, further highlighting its role in protecting the interests of property buyers and SMEs in the real estate sector.
The Lagos State government continues to position its housing sector as both a social asset and an economic engine for small businesses, skilled workers, and the broader community.
