In a show of commitment to the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), a leading financial institution has hosted business empowerment clinics across 10 major cities in Nigeria.
According to a statement released on Monday, the SME Business Clinic initiative was organised to mark the 2025 United Nations' World SME Day, under the theme: "Empowering SMEs for Growth and Sustainability."
Held throughout June, the programme delivered training and strategic business support to entrepreneurs in key commercial centres including Lagos (Balogun Market and Computer Village), Port Harcourt, Aba, Asaba, Onitsha, Kano, Maiduguri, Kaduna, Abuja, and Ibadan.
Speaking on the initiative, a senior executive from the firm said the clinics were designed to equip small business owners with tools to grow, build resilience, and boost their contributions to Nigeria's economy. "We recognise the critical role SMEs play in national development. This initiative reflects our commitment to empowering the real sector through innovation, financial education, and sustainability," the official stated.

Each clinic featured expert-led workshops, interactive sessions, and tailored advice for navigating key business challenges such as financing, growth strategy, and digital transformation.
Participants lauded the effort, expressing appreciation for the practical guidance and the sense of inclusion. Many remarked that it was encouraging to see a bank actively investing in their success, beyond traditional banking services.
According to the 2024 Informal Economy Report by Moniepoint, Nigeria hosts about 40 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), with nearly 90% operating within the informal economy.
