In a bold move to reposition Imo State as a digital talent hub, the state government has partnered with the University of California, Berkeley, and the US Market Access Center to place 100,000 Imo-trained technology professionals in global employment by 2026.
At the heart of this initiative is ImoTalentHub.com, a digital marketplace designed to connect software engineers, data scientists, and designers from Imo to employers in Lagos, London, Silicon Valley, Dubai, and beyond.
The new platform builds on the Skill Up Imo program launched by Governor Hope Uzodimma in 2022, which has already trained over 40,000 youths in areas such as artificial intelligence, software development, cybersecurity, and user experience (UX) design.
"Imo is shifting from an analogue mindset to a digital future," Governor Uzodimma said. "Our youth now have the skills, tools, and platform to compete globally. We're building not just workers—but innovators."
Through the partnership, graduates receive a verified profile, public portfolios, and access to smart contracts that manage compliance, payments, and employer verification. This allows employers—whether in London or Lagos—to seamlessly hire tech professionals in Owerri with full payment and legal assurance.
The academic strength of the initiative is backed by UC Berkeley's Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology, whose professors have led venture funding workshops, helped set up NVIDIA-powered cloud labs at the Imo Digital City campus, and designed a founder development program that includes Berkeley certification and startup funding opportunities.

Chris Burry, Managing Director of the US Market Access Center, praised the vision: "We see in Imo the kind of drive that built Silicon Valley. We are mentoring the next wave of founders who will solve global problems from Africa."
The ImoTalentHub platform features AI-powered job matching, real-time earnings dashboards, employer APIs for large-scale hiring, and secure contract features with escrow protection. It also promotes transparency by publishing anonymized data on earnings and job placement outcomes.
Officials say the project will boost youth employment, attract foreign remittances, and engage the Nigerian diaspora as mentors, hiring partners, and angel investors. Residents of Imo can access the Skill Up Imo program for free, with expansion plans into blockchain, healthtech, and climate data analytics in partnership with Berkeley.
"Our most valuable export is no longer oil or cassava—it's human capital," said Governor Uzodimma. "Imo is on track to become the digital capital of the Southeast and a model for youth empowerment across Africa."
