The Federal Government plans to create more than 2 million jobs across Nigeria through its Renewed Hope Social Housing Programme, which aims to reduce the country's housing deficit and stimulate local economies.
The initiative, led by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, will see 100 housing units constructed in each of Nigeria's 774 local government areas, offering affordable homes to low-income earners, the unemployed, and Internally Displaced Persons.
According to the Minister of Housing, Ahmed Dangiwa, the programme is expected to generate jobs across construction, materials supply, logistics, and services—creating 27 jobs per site, in over 77,000 locations nationwide.

Funding will be drawn from the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, with a National Social Housing Fund bill to be introduced for long-term sustainability.
The Minister said that construction at several housing sites in Abuja, Kano, and Lagos is nearing completion, with developers already beginning to recover investments through early subscriptions.
Lawmakers pledged support for the programme, calling for housing to be prioritised in national funding allocations, citing its impact on jobs, development, and stability.
