The Federal Government has inaugurated the Project Steering Committee for the Niger Delta Ferry Service Project, marking a major move to strengthen trade, mobility, and enterprise growth across the region's riverine communities.
The initiative, launched by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, and chaired by the Minister of Niger Delta Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, will establish a modern marine transport network to link communities, reduce logistics costs, and expand market access.

According to Edun, the project will catalyse business activity by improving connectivity for SMEs, traders, and service providers. "Efficient transport catalyses economic activity. When people and goods move more easily, markets expand, productivity rises, and communities prosper," he stated.
The ferry system forms part of the Federal Government's Renewed Hope infrastructure agenda aimed at unlocking local economies and driving inclusive growth. Once completed, it is expected to create new trade corridors, promote tourism, and enhance livelihoods across the Niger Delta.
