Nigeria's aviation sector is still "under-exploited" despite huge market potential across cargo services, aircraft maintenance, leasing, and aviation real estate, President Bola Tinubu has said.
Speaking at the 2025 Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) National Aviation Conference in Lagos, the President represented by the SGF, George Akume said the aviation industry is one of Africa's most viable investment destinations, with room for SMEs to play bigger roles.
He noted that under the Renewed Hope Agenda, the government has delivered key infrastructure upgrades including new international terminals in Lagos and Port Harcourt, and major rehabilitation works in Abuja, Enugu, and Kano.

Other improvements include stronger collaboration with global aviation bodies, expansion of cargo and MRO facilities, and work on a transparent framework for a national carrier—openings that directly benefit logistics firms, aviation service providers, equipment suppliers, and technical SMEs.
Tinubu stressed that government alone cannot drive the sector, adding that regulatory reforms, clearer processes, and new incentives are being rolled out to attract private investors, create jobs, and strengthen competitiveness.
He urged stakeholders to chart a growth pathway that will keep Nigeria's aviation sector "flying higher" while maintaining global safety standards.
