Life Reimagined: Unlocking Hidden Hours, Biological Age, Better Napping, and Bubbles
Hey uguba ndubuisi, hope you're having a relaxing weekend!
This week, we'll be discussing:
- A new course to help you get more done in less time
- A biological age test to assess your overall health
- Techniques to start napping better
- Whether or not we're in an asset bubble
⏰ Unlocking Hidden Hours: Doing Time Right
I'm teaming up with Steph Smith to launch a course about how you can leverage modern products and services to get more done in less time.
The goal of the course is to help you get the most out of your most valuable and scarce asset: time.
With more time, you can focus on what you enjoy – building side projects, learning new skills, spending time with friends and family, and so on. You can also quickly build an edge that helps you stand out at work.
The course will not 100x your productivity or solve all of your problems, but it will show you how to build systems with the help of modern tools that will allow you save many hours every week.
We're officially releasing the product on July 16th, but you can pre-order it now at a discounted price. More than 150 people have already pre-ordered the course.
👉 Check it out here: Unlocking Hidden Hours: Doing Time Right
As a thank you for being a reader of Life Reimagined, you can use the discount code: "SaveTime" for the next 48 hours to get 40% off.
After this window, prices will increase based on the number of copies sold.
I'm really stoked about this, and I hope you find it valuable. If you have anything that you want us to consider covering in the course, like an area where you spend far too much time every week, just reply to let me know.
🧬 My First Biological Age Test
Improving my health has been my main focus for the last 8 weeks. I've mostly been reading research, building new habits, and running little experiments. My plan is to share what I'm learning along the way.
Here's one thing I did this week that I found valuable
I took a biological age test from Thorne Research. With $95 and a quick blood test, I learned about the biological age of my body and vital organs.
I took the test for two reasons:
- To evaluate how I'm doing and get personalized recommendations to improve in specific areas.
- To set a baseline for a test I can take every 6-12 months to see how my investments in health are impacting my body and organs.
If I'm going to spend a bunch of time on trying to be healthier, I need some data to evaluate what's actually working. And while some of that data is qualitative (how I feel on average) - I wanted to have a simple blood test to tell me how things are going inside.
So the Thorne test was cool because it uses biomarkers to break down your biological age across various categories – Blood Age, Lipid Age, Liver Age, Kidney Age, and Metabolic Age.
It basically tells you how you're doing relative to your chronological age, including a list of recommendations about how you can improve.
On the whole, I had a "feel good" result in that my overall biological age is much younger than my actual age.
What's interesting is that my "biological youth" was not equal across my entire body.
For example, my kidney's seem to be thriving.
But my Lipid Age is sort of "okay."
For each system measured, you get a breakdown of what factors from your blood test increased or decreased your biological age. Along with that, you get recommendations about improvements you can make.
Honestly, this was well worth the $95, and I got my results within 24 hours of getting the blood drawn.
The next step for me is to make some of the suggested improvements provided, alongside other things I'm doing. Then, I will take the test again in 6-12 months to see what has changed or not changed.
I'm not necessarily recommending or not recommending this test. I'm sharing it with you because I personally found it helpful and much more useful than an "annual checkup" with the doctor. As with everything, do your own research and what makes sense for you.
If you're planning on taking the test, just let me know and I can send you a referral code for $25 off.
Finally, while I haven't used the service, I have also heard that Inside Tracker is another product that can provide you with insights like this.
I took the Thorne test because it's cheap, easy, and where I buy a few supplements. If you've taken this test or have any other tips for resources, definitely let me know!
💤 Better Napping
I'm a terrible "napper." Even when I'm exhausted, I can't nap. This is a real problem, especially when I haven't been sleeping well for a few days.
Over the years, I've tried a bunch of hacks to improve my napping skills. I've found two that have been helpful for me.
By far, the most useful tool is a 30-minute binaural beats track. A binaural beat is your brain processing the difference between two tones that are played at different frequencies in your ears.
I don't know much about the science behind it (you can learn more here), but I do know that I've successfully used binaural beat soundtracks to nap and feel much more rested.
The one that I use almost daily is: Earth and Peace Track
Here's what I do:
- Lay in bed, throw in noise-canceling headphones, and put on an eyeshade.
- I put on the track, and 30 minutes later, I feel pretty good. I usually feel like I've gotten 90 minutes of sleep and am much more relaxed than when I started the session.
- What's fascinating is that I rarely actually sleep. Usually, I am restless and monkey-brained for the first 5-10 minutes, then slowly my mind and body start to relax.
- During the last 15 minutes, I feel very calm and have extremely clear thinking. And by the end, I often have thought through some hard problem.
I have no idea if this track will work for you or anyone but myself, but it has literally been a lifesaver for me over the last 3 years.
This week, I also tried a Yoga Nidra script, which is kind of like a guided meditation that leverages the science of hypnosis to put you in a relaxed state. I only tried it once, but it helped me get back to sleep after waking up with some existential palpitations in the middle of the night.
I used this track: I am Yoga Nidra based on a recommendation from the Huberman Lab podcast about how to feel more well-rested by inducing non-sleep deep rest (NSDR).
If you struggle to nap or generally are interested in little hacks to feel more well-rested, it could be worth giving both the binaural beats and NSDR tracks a try.
If you have any tips or have had some things that have worked well for you on this front, I'd love to hear about it.
📈 Are we in a bubble?
At a time where several asset classes are at all-time highs, there's a lot of talk about whether we're in a bubble.
That, coupled with crypto assets falling ~50% from their highs, prompted me and Steph Smith to explore our thoughts on bubbles.
In our latest podcast episode, we discuss:
- The markings of past bubbles
- The innovation hype cycle
- The difficulty of profiting from innovation
- The importance of building your own conviction
- Managing your psychology (offense vs defense)
- The cyclical nature of market cycles, and of course...
- Whether we think we're in a bubble today.
🎙 Check it out here: Are we in a bubble?
For what it's worth, nothing we say in the episode is financial advice. We're just two people on the internet trying to share what we know in the event it's helpful for you.
