Vedanta Regains Control of Konkola Copper Mines in Zambia Vedanta Resources Holdings Limited ("VRHL" or "Vedanta Holdings" or "Vedanta"), the diversified global mining, metals, natural resources, energy, and technology conglomerate today confirmed that it has paid USD 245.75 million in line with its commitment under the KCM scheme of arrangement. This paves the way for imminent reinstatement of the Board of Directors of KCM and the return of full management control to Vedanta, which is necessary before Vedanta ramps up production and unlocks KCM's full potential. Cape Town Mining Summit to Highlight the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)'s Critical Mineral Investment Prospects The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)'s state-owned mining firm, Gecamines, and Canadian company Ivanhoe Mines have resumed operations at the high-grade Kipushi zinc-copper mine . The mine is expected to produce up to 140,000 tons of zinc concentrate this year and up to 278,000 tons annually over the next five years, with upgrades to the mine's new concentrator currently underway. Need to know Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet with Donald Trump today, a day after speaking with President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who urged an end to Israel's war with Hamas. Ceasefire pressure: Both Biden and Harris pushed Netanyahu to make a ceasefire deal, though Harris struck a tougher tone, emphasizing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. "I will not be silent," she said. [Reuters] Trump's meeting: The former president is expected to cast himself as an ally to Netanyahu, as well as support Republican efforts to portray the GOP as the party most loyal to Israel. [AP]

3 Questions... about the Paris Olympics The Olympics officially kick off today. I talked to sports reporter Jay Busbee, who's on the ground in Paris, about the atmosphere and what to watch this weekend. You're in Paris. What's it like going into the opening ceremony? Evidence of the Games is everywhere, such as the beach volleyball arena that they built under the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. But there's also a dimension of concern after the vandalism that crippled the railways outside of Paris today. What makes this year's opening ceremony special? This will be the first opening ceremony ever held outside of a stadium. It'll blend all the elements of a traditional opener (like the parade of athletes and the lighting of the cauldron) into one massive spectacle. The entire city has, in effect, become a stage. What are the one or two big events that people won't want to miss this weekend? Do I have to limit it to one or two? There will be equestrian events out at gorgeous Versailles and surfing at Teahupo'o in Tahiti. But the best events might be the gold-medal rounds of street skateboarding at the Place de la Concorde and the swimming 4x100 freestyle relays. Who's lighting the Olympic cauldron? Here are the likely candidates.
