Italy's consumer inflation held steady at 1.9% in April, unchanged from March and marking the highest level since September 2023, according to revised data from the national statistics agency.
The figure was slightly lower than the 2.0% initially estimated. Notably, regulated energy prices surged by 31.7%, up from 27.2%, while unprocessed food inflation rose to 4.2% from 3.3%. In contrast, unregulated energy prices dropped by 3.4%.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile energy and food prices, climbed to 2.1% from 1.7%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by just 0.1%, revised down from 0.2%.
The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), used for EU comparisons, showed a slower rise of 2.0% year-on-year, also revised down. Monthly HICP inflation came in at 0.4%, slightly below the 0.5% flash estimate.
