The ban was lifted following the provision in the Electoral Law Act 2010, which stipulates that commencement of campaigns by political parties must start 90 days before the electioneering period. The Chief Press secretary to INEC Chairman, Mr. Kayode Robert Idowu, who explained to the press yesterday, said the commencement of campaigns by political parties is a provision under the electoral Act 2010 as amended under section 99(1). Mr. Kayode warned that the Commission has put in place mechanism to detect those politicians that flouted the rules that earmarked the amount of monies to be expended by aspiring candidates. He explained that the Electoral Act has stipulated that for a candidate aspiring for the Presidency of the country should not exceed the spending of more than N1 billion, while those aspiring for state governorship should not spend over N200, 000,000.
