Howdy, friends! Today’s Yodel is brought to you by the two-and-a-half green teas I chugged while writing, and much like Elon Musk, I’m now feeling ~extremely hardcore~. Onto our agenda: We’ve got a ton of congressional news, lots of famous athletes being sued and a strange chin infection. | | | | |
| News To Know | | (AP) | - It's official: Republicans narrowly won the House of Representatives. They already decided that Kevin McCarthy will lead the chamber as speaker next year too.
- The Senate advanced a bill that would enshrine protections for same-sex marriage, as well as interracial marriage, into law. A final vote is expected later this month.
- Now that we’ve finally settled the outcomes of last week’s election, experts are debating whether or not Donald Trump is to blame for the Republican Party’s lackluster midterms performance. Whew, people have *lots* of opinions on this one!

| Finance For You | | (Yahoo Finance) | - I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but a new survey confirms earlier estimates that your Thanksgiving dinner is gonna cost 20 percent more than last year. Ugh, I just want to eat my cranberry sauce in peace!!!!
- Homebuyers are suddenly racing to lock in their purchases after a recent drop in mortgage rates. They went from 7.22 percent down to 6.62 percent and may rise again soon, so I can understand the urgency.
- It’s the saga that never ends: Elon Musk realized that perhaps he should put a different person in charge of leading Twitter. Huh. You think so?
| | | |
| Sports. Sports. Sports. | | (Getty) | - Tom Brady, Stephen Curry, Shaq and Naomi Osaka are all in hot water for their association with the crypto platform FTX. In fact, they’re all being sued by a class-action lawsuit for promoting the now-bankrupt exchange.
- One person who’s in a good mood: Tennis star Novak Djokovic. You may remember his Australian Open deportation ordeal from back in January, but Djokovic has already obtained his visa for the event in early 2023.
- Think the NFL is bad at handling concussions? Apparently the World Cup is infinitely worse.
| | | |
| Culture Corner | | (Getty) | - There’s gonna be a White House wedding this weekend. Learn more about the long-standing traditions of getting married on the South Lawn before Joe Biden’s granddaughter Naomi walks down the aisle.
- There’s a whole lot we could learn about Indigenous food, courtesy of a chef who’s intimately familiar with it.
- Welp, it’s not every day you hear about a woman getting a chin infection … from her boyfriend’s stubble.

|
| Tech Talk | | (Microsoft) | - The workday just got a whole lot more fun, because now users on Microsoft Teams can challenge colleagues to games like Minesweeper and Solitaire. Pshhhh, who needs productivity?
- California is trying to cut down on cannabis waste throughout the state. However, regulations made to stop black-market activities are creating a few other big problems. Oof...
- Meta’s still trying to make this whole ~Metaverse~ thing happen. In fact, its latest efforts include hosting a VR concert featuring a “hyper-realistic” avatar of The Notorious B.I.G. So ... are you going?
| | | |
| Entertainment Spotlight | | (Everett Collection) | - Disney's upcoming feature ‘Strange World’ includes the first openly gay teenager to appear in one of its animated films. The movie looks fabulous!
- Over 130 experts signed an open letter in support of Amber Heard several months after her defamation trial. “The vilification of Ms. Heard and ongoing online harassment of her and those who have voiced support for her have been unprecedented in both vitriol and scale,” they wrote.
- Actor Brendan Fraser is back on the awards circuit with his new movie ‘The Whale,’ but he’s sticking to his guns and won’t attend the Golden Globes even if he’s nominated. There's a very specific reason why.
