The number of Nigerians benefiting from the Federal Government's cash transfer programme under the National Social Safety Net Programme-Scale Up has reached 32.21 million as of January 2025, according to a World Bank report.
The programme, aimed at providing financial relief to low-income households, saw an increase from 30.35 million beneficiaries in June 2024. Women make up a significant portion, with 28.55 million female recipients.

Additionally, the Economic Shock Responsive Cash Transfer now supports 5.39 million households, while 1.51 million households benefit from the Extended Regular Cash Transfer.
To enhance security and transparency, the CBN mandated NIN or BVN verification for all beneficiaries since March 2024.
The National Social Safety Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO) partnered with the National Identity Management Commission to validate identities and strengthen the social register.
Despite progress, the World Bank rated the programme's implementation as "moderately satisfactory," citing challenges such as policy shifts, leadership changes, and macroeconomic risks.
