The Federal Ministry of Education has rolled out a nationwide Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program aimed at equipping Nigerians with industry-relevant skills. As part of this initiative, the government is calling on vocational training centres to register for accreditation, granting them access to government funding for skill development.
The announcement was made in a statement by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press & Public Relations, Ministry of Education, highlighting the Ministry's commitment to strengthening technical and vocational education in Nigeria.
Registration and Accreditation Process
The Ministry, through the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), is inviting Skill Training Centres (STCs), Vocational Enterprise Institutions (VEIs), and Mastercraft Persons (MCPs) to apply for accreditation. Accredited centres will be eligible to receive government funding to support training programs under the TVET initiative.
To ensure quality and standardization, the following accreditation requirements have been set:
For Vocational Enterprise Institutions (VEIs):
- Must be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
- Must adopt the National Skills Qualification (NSQ)-Based Curricula.
- Each trade program must have at least one qualified instructor per trade (maintaining a 1:40 instructor-to-student ratio).
- Each trade must have a Quality Assurance Assessor (QAA) and an Internal Quality Assurance Manager (IQAM) or engage part-time personnel if unavailable.

For Skill Training Centres (STCs):
- Must be CAC-registered and implement NSQ-based curricula.
- Each program must have a qualified instructor or a senior artisan with at least NSQ Level 3 certification.
- Centres must have at least one QAA and one certified IQAM or engage part-time personnel where necessary.
For Mastercraft Persons (MCPs):
- Must have either CAC registration or a National Identification Number (NIN).
- Must adopt NSQ-Based Curricula and have at least one qualified instructor or experienced artisan with NSQ Level 3 certification.
- The training environment must include workshops and restrooms, along with records of past training programs and certifications awarded.
How to Apply
Interested training centres and individuals can apply for accreditation via the NBTE Digital Portal.
This initiative is expected to boost skills development, employment opportunities, and economic growth, particularly for small businesses and artisans across Nigeria.
