The Niger State Government has announced a new initiative to train 10,000 youths, with a special focus on young women, in financial literacy and entrepreneurship.
Launched in collaboration with the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) and the MasterCard Foundation, the programme—Transforming Nigerian Youth Programme (TNY)—aims to equip young entrepreneurs with essential business management skills and enhance their employability.
According to Mrs. Hauwa Bako, Special Adviser to the Governor on Social Investment, the initiative is designed for aspiring and existing female entrepreneurs, offering both online (60%) and offline (40%) training sessions. It targets 80% female and 20% male participants between the ages of 18 and 35.

However, Mrs. Elizabeth Shaba, Commissioner for MSMEs, clarified that the programme does not provide starter packs, business grants, or loans.
Mrs. Halima Rabiu of EDC added that participants can complete the training 100% online at their own pace, with community-based learning available for women.
Meanwhile, Mr. Olawale Anifowose, Director of Programmes at the MasterCard Foundation, emphasized that the programme would build on past successes, covering key topics like business planning, financial management, marketing, and digital skills.
With this initiative, Niger State aims to empower its youth, especially women, to thrive in entrepreneurship and financial independence.
