The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reached a new milestone in gender representation, with women now making up 35% of its directors and half of its non-executive board.
CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso highlighted the importance of gender-balanced leadership during the grand finale of the bank's International Women's Day (IWD) celebrations, emphasizing that inclusive leadership is both a moral and strategic necessity.
The appointment of six new female directors marks a record for the institution, ensuring diverse perspectives at the top. Cardoso also praised the contributions of female leaders, including his advisers and existing directors, who continue to drive institutional progress.

The event featured the Inspiring Women Award, recognizing outstanding female staff across the bank's branches. Out of 806 nominations, 28 winners were selected from locations including Awka, Yola, Kaduna, and Gombe.
Deputy Governor Corporate Services, Emem Usoro, received the Amazon Award for her leadership, urging institutions to accelerate efforts toward gender equity.
