The Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC) has launched its Green Wheels Taxi project, introducing solar-powered electric vehicles in Makurdi, Gboko, and Otukpo as part of a bold move to cut carbon emissions, create jobs, and modernise the state's transport sector.
Commissioned on Monday, May 5, the initiative is expected to generate over 1,500 jobs while promoting eco-friendly mobility across key urban areas. BIPC Managing Director, Dr. Raymond Asemakaha, described the launch as a major milestone in reducing dependence on fossil fuels and curbing air pollution in the state.
"This project marks a significant step toward reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, decreasing air pollution, and mitigating the impacts of climate change," Asemakaha stated.
