A fire outbreak at the popular Farm Center GSM market in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State has destroyed more than 300 shops, leaving traders with millions of naira in losses.
The fire reportedly started around 2:00 p.m. on Friday in the Dan Sileka building within the market, razing stalls stocked with mobile phones, accessories, and other electronics before being brought under control by the Kano State Fire Service.
Emergency responders acted swiftly to prevent the blaze from spreading to other sections of the busy market.
Shortly after the incident, the Executive Chairman of Tarauni LGA, Ahmed Muhammad, visited the market to assess the damage and show support to affected traders. He expressed sympathy with the victims and called on government agencies, NGOs, and well-meaning Nigerians to assist in the recovery effort.

Muhammad also emphasised the need for better fire prevention systems in markets, while praying for the affected traders to recover their losses.
Leaders of the GSM market community, including Jamilu Bala Gama, Chairman of the Farm Center GSM Traders Association, and Alhaji Abdula'ziz Usman Mai Tabarma, the Market Managing Director, commended the quick response from local authorities and emergency services.
They confirmed that an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway and thanked the fire service for containing the incident before it escalated further.
Many traders are now faced with the difficult task of rebuilding their businesses, with hopes that support will come quickly to ease their recovery.
