Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's creation of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, describing it as a bold and strategic move to accelerate Nigeria's economic growth.
Speaking through his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, during a courtesy visit by participants of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 47, 2025, of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Asaba, the Governor emphasized the need for robust policy development to unlock the potential of the blue economy.
Oborevwori highlighted Delta State's coastal advantage, with over 160 kilometres of coastline and a rich marine biodiversity that includes economically valuable species.

He noted that revitalizing the state's four seaports—Koko, Warri, Burutu, and Sapele—was central to the State's short-term economic strategy.
He urged the NIPSS study team to explore opportunities in marine transportation, coastal tourism, blue energy, and marine biotechnology.
Leader of the NIPSS team, DIG Leye Oyebade (Rtd), said the theme of the tour, "Blue Economy and Sustainable Development in Nigeria," would help identify key challenges and opportunities to diversify the nation's economy.
The Delta State Government pledged full support to the team through technical insights and guided field visits.
