Since March 2025, onion prices surged by 44%, with a big bag rising from ₦18,000 to ₦26,000 due to seasonal changes, insecurity, rising input costs, and a supply suspension by the Onion Producers and Marketers Association (OPMAN). However, fresh supplies from neighbouring Niger Republic are set to flood Nigerian markets, easing scarcity and driving prices down. Traders attribute the smoother supply this year to favourable weather and improved cooperation at the borders.
