Just one dollar out of every five spent on mineral exploration goes toward finding new deposits, according to Walter Tejada
Only 21% of the global mining exploration budget in 2025 was allocated to greenfield projects, that is, the search for new mineral deposits. This share represents just one-fifth of the total. For geologist Walter Tejada, past president of proEXPLO, this figure reflects the industry’s main challenge: the urgent need to increase investment in early-stage exploration to sustain future mineral supply.
