The Akwa Ibom State Government has officially flagged off the reconstruction of the Oron Marine Jetty, a crucial hub for marine trade, transport, and tourism. The project, scheduled for completion by September, is already generating over 1,000 daily jobs for locals and is expected to transform Oron into a major commercial and leisure destination.
The upgraded jetty will include steel shore protections, four modern jetties, a ferry terminal, a cold room and warehouse, a 5,500-square-meter car park, an internal road network, and a recreational center—all equipped with top-tier security to enhance operations and attract investments.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Governor [Name] emphasized the strategic importance of developing the state's waterways, noting that while the government may not yet have the financial capacity for railways, investment in marine infrastructure will significantly improve transportation and economic activities.

The governor commended Rear Admiral Etop Ebe and the Nigerian Navy for their efforts in delivering the first passenger cruise ferry and training engineers for the jetty's maintenance. He also urged local youth to support the contractors in ensuring timely completion.
"With this project, we are not only restoring Oron's historic economic relevance but also curbing rural-urban migration by creating more opportunities for our people. Akwa Ibom is rising," he stated.
The reconstruction of the Oron Marine Jetty is part of the state's broader commitment to infrastructure development, economic growth, and enhanced connectivity across riverine communities.
