The market was shut on Thursday during an inspection visit by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who revealed the disturbing conditions in a video posted on his official X handle. "It's not going to work. The government sent me here, and I've done the message. I am closing it down until things are done the right way," Wahab said, addressing traders during the visit. "People cannot be sleeping in an animal field; it's not going to work, and let's try to do something right. When we shut it down, somebody will sit down and think." Wahab reaffirmed that these actions are in line with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017, stressing the need for all market stakeholders to adhere to proper sanitation and public health standards. The government has indicated that the market will remain closed until corrective measures are taken and full compliance is achieved.

The meeting signals a renewed commitment to harness Kano's industrial potential through federal support and state-level implementation. Meanwhile, in Oyo State, the government has announced over $170 million in agribusiness investments, driven by its flagship project at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub. The update was given during an inter-ministerial press briefing held at the Governor's Office in Ibadan. Oyo's Commissioner for Agriculture, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, revealed that the hub now houses major cassava, cashew, and dairy processors, integrating over 8,000 smallholder farmers into high-value supply chains. In two years, the ministry has: Supported 10,210 farmers with inputs. Distributed improved seedlings, tools, and feed. Provided microloans to 3,501 farmers.
